A regional name for Yamaguchi's northern Sea of Japan coast, usually taken to include Hagi, Nagato and Shimonoseki. It lies on the route of the "kudari kujira", whales that head south in winter to raise their young, and at Kayoi in Nagato old-style net whaling was carried out.
