A son of shogun Tokugawa Hidetada who became the first lord of Aizu domain. In 1668 he issued the domain's 15-article House Precepts, making loyalty to the shogunate the domain's founding principle, and he also laid the groundwork for the Oyakuen garden and for the education and industry policies that later fed into the Nisshinkan domain school.
