Also known as: 海響館・しものせき水族館・Shimonoseki Aquarium

The Shimonoseki municipal aquarium, opened in 2001. Its highlights include the Kanmon Strait tidal tank, which recreates the strait's fierce currents, and a penguin village billed as one of the largest in Japan. At opening it drew attention as the only place in Japan displaying a blue whale skeleton, about 26 m long. The August 2025 renovation added Hireashi Beach, a facility for displaying and breeding sea lions.
