Also known as: 彦島

An island at the western entrance of the Kanmon Strait, facing the Shimonoseki mainland across a narrow channel. In that channel sits the Shimonoseki Fishing Port Lock, built on the same principle as the Panama Canal and said to be the smallest in the world. Haedomari Market, the fugu-only wholesale market, stands at the island's western edge.
