Hakata Gion YamakasaHakata Gion Yamakasa

Also known as: 博多祇園山笠・山笠

A summer festival dedicated to Kushida Shrine held over approximately two weeks each July, culminating in the predawn Oiyama race on July 15. The festival features both tall decorative floats (kazariyama) and low portable floats (kakiyama) carried and raced through the streets. It is registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
