Oiyama (The Final Yamakasa Race)Oiyama
Also known as: 追い山・櫛田入り
The climactic race of the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival, held in the predawn hours of July 15. Seven kakiyama floats representing different nagare community units race through the streets of Hakata, starting with a dash through the gate of Kushida Shrine (called 'Kushida-iri'). Times are recorded for each float, and the first float alone performs the traditional blessing song 'Iyome-detō' inside the shrine.
