Higashi Chaya DistrictHigashi Chaya-gai

Also known as: Higashi Chaya・Higashiyama Higashi

A geisha teahouse district established in 1820 on the right bank of the Asano River, generally considered the most prestigious of Kanazawa's three chaya districts. On November 14, 2001, it became the first area in Kanazawa, and the second teahouse district in all of Japan after Kyoto's Gion, to be designated a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
