Nishi Chaya DistrictNishi Chaya-gai

Also known as: Nishi Chaya

A teahouse district on the west side of the Sai River, established in 1820, the same year as the Higashi Chaya and Kazue-machi Chaya districts. It is the smallest of Kanazawa's three chaya districts, with teahouse architecture concentrated along a single street, and it remains an active geisha quarter where shamisen music can still be heard in the evenings.
