A novelist born in 1871 in the Yokoyama-machi district of Kanazawa, who attended the same elementary school as fellow Kanazawa native Izumi Kyoka, one grade apart. After studying under Ozaki Koyo, he turned to naturalist fiction, publishing Arakure and a run of other novels including Shinjotai, Ashiato, and Kabi between 1908 and 1915.
