Words & dialect・Kanazawa
Little KyotoSho-Kyoto
Also known as: Little Kyoto of Hokuriku
A nickname applied to castle towns that retain a strong flavor of old street layouts, gardens, and samurai-era culture, and Kanazawa is one of the cities most associated with it. The city itself promoted the phrase Little Kyoto of Hokuriku from around 1985, but withdrew from the National Little Kyoto Council in 2008, and the next year became a UNESCO Creative City in Crafts and Folk Art instead.
