Sufu MasanosukeSufu Masanosuke

Also known as: 周布政之助・Sufu・Asada Kosuke

A late-Edo Choshu samurai and a leader of the reform faction who steered the domain. Born in Hagi's Emukai in 1823, he was influenced by Murata Seifu through his mother's family. He held that expulsion of foreigners should rest on opening the country, and pushed domain reform, but after the Kinmon Incident and the defeat at Shimonoseki let the pro-shogunate faction rebound, he took his own life in 1864, at forty-two by Japanese count.
