Morito Shrine

A shrine on Hayama's Morito Beach, popularly called Morito Daimyojin. According to tradition it was founded in 1180 when Minamoto no Yoritomo invited a divided spirit of Mishima Myojin, in present-day Shizuoka, here in thanks for his successful uprising. It enshrines two deities, Oyamatsumi and Kotoshironushi, and later served as a place of prayer for Kamakura shoguns and the Miura clan.
