Hayama Imperial Villa

Completed in 1894 as an imperial recuperation villa, built partly on the recommendation of German physician Erwin von Balz, making it one of the oldest surviving imperial villas in Japan. In 1926 the ailing Emperor Taisho died here, and the ceremony transferring the imperial regalia to Emperor Showa took place at the annex.
