Also known as: 住吉神社・Sumiyoshi Shrine in Shimonoseki

The Ichinomiya, or chief shrine, of the old Nagato Province, said to have been founded by Empress Jingu. It ranks with Sumiyoshi Taisha in Osaka and Sumiyoshi Shrine in Hakata as one of the Three Great Sumiyoshi. The main hall, built in 1370 by Ouchi Hiroyo, is a National Treasure: five one-bay sanctuaries joined together under a roof with five chidori gables.
