Kameyama HachimanguKameyama Hachimangu

Also known as: 亀山八幡宮

A shrine in central Shimonoseki at the foot of Mt. Kameyama, affectionately called the guardian deity of Seki and Kameyama-sama. Tradition says it began in 859 when a party carrying the Hachiman deity from Usa to Iwashimizu stopped here and enshrined it temporarily. Its grounds hold a bronze fugu statue billed as the world's largest.
