Also known as: 馬関・赤馬関
An old name for Shimonoseki. The kan of Kanmon comes from Bakan, and the strait was also called the Bakan Strait. When the Sanyo Railway reached Shimonoseki in 1901, its terminus in Hosoe-cho was Bakan Station, renamed Shimonoseki Station the next year.
