Kanazawa CastleKanazawa-jo

Also known as: Oyama Castle

The castle stands on the former site of Oyama Gobo, a fortified Ikko-ikki temple, and became the seat of 14 generations of the Maeda lords of the Kaga Domain after Maeda Toshiie entered it in 1583. Its main keep burned down early in the Edo period and was never rebuilt, and the Hishi Turret, Gojukken Nagaya storehouse, and Hashizume-mon Tsuzuki Turret visitors see today are wooden reconstructions completed in 2001 using traditional nail-free joinery.
