Asaina Kiridoshi

Asaina Kiridoshi is one of the “Seven Entrances of Kamakura,” a mountain pass linking Kamakura to Mutsuura (today's Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama). Work began in 1240 under the order of regent Hojo Yasutoki, and the route became a key trade path for salt and seafood. Legend credits Asaina Saburo Yoshihide, third son of the warrior Wada Yoshimori, with carving it open in a single night. It is now a National Historic Site.
