Satsuma-yakiSatsuma-yaki
Also known as: Satsuma ware・SATSUMA
A pottery tradition begun by Korean potters brought back by Shimazu Yoshihiro after the invasions of Korea in the 1590s. It splits broadly into ivory-toned, elaborately decorated White Satsuma and iron-rich, everyday Black Satsuma, and was designated a national Traditional Craft Product in 2002.
