Maebara IsseiMaebara Issei

Also known as: 前原一誠

Born in 1834 as a Hagi samurai's eldest son, he entered Shokasonjuku at 24. He served as an imperial army staff officer in the Boshin War and rose to councillor and vice-minister of the army in the new government, but resigned and came home in 1870 after policy clashes. In 1876 he led the Hagi Rebellion, raising troops with the Meirinkan school as his headquarters.
