Kido TakayoshiKido Takayoshi

Also known as: 木戸孝允・Katsura Kogoro・桂小五郎

Born in 1833 as the eldest son of Hagi domain physician Wada, he was adopted into the Katsura samurai family and went by Katsura Kogoro. In 1865 the domain ordered him to change his surname to Kido, and in 1866 he concluded the Satsuma-Choshu Alliance with Saigo Takamori and Okubo Toshimichi through the mediation of Sakamoto Ryoma. He died in 1877 during the Satsuma Rebellion.
