YojibegaseYojibegase

Also known as: 与次兵衛ヶ瀬・Yojibegase Reef

A submerged reef that once lay in the Oseto channel of the Kanmon Strait. It surfaced at low tide, was feared as a deadly shoal, and is said to have caught a ship carrying Toyotomi Hideyoshi in July 1592. The ship’s captain, Akashi Yojibei, took responsibility and killed himself, and a memorial raised afterward gave the reef its name. It lay beside Ganryujima and was blown up with explosives between 1912 and 1917 (Taisho 1 to 6).
