A black pine beside Kasumigaike Pond in Kenrokuen, said to have been grown from seed brought in by the 13th Kaga lord Maeda Nariyasu from Karasaki, on the shore of Lake Biwa in present-day Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, one of the celebrated Eight Views of Omi. It is considered the most magnificently branched tree in the entire garden, and each year the garden's yukitsuri rope work begins with this tree on November 1.
