A roughly 107-meter hill in central Kagoshima that once served as the mountain citadel backing Kagoshima Castle, Shiroyama became the site of the final battle of the Satsuma Rebellion, where Saigo Takamori and his remaining men made their last stand in a nearby cave before his death.
