Nanshu ShrineNanshū Jinja

Named after Saigo Takamori's pen name Nanshu, this shrine stands beside Nanshu Cemetery, where 2,023 Satsuma army soldiers who died in the 1877 Satsuma Rebellion are buried. Officially recognized as a shrine in 1922, it burned down during World War II and was rebuilt in 1950.
