A personal flotation device worn to prevent drowning accidents. Since February 2018, wearing one has been mandatory nationwide for passengers on small boats. In Hayama, where stand-up paddleboard, or SUP, users have increasingly drifted out to sea, the town separately urges paddlers to wear a life jacket and check their skills and gear before heading out.
