Treaty of ShimonosekiShimonoseki Joyaku

Also known as: 下関条約・日清講和条約

The peace treaty that ended the First Sino-Japanese War, signed at Shunpanro on April 17, 1895. Qing China recognized Korea's independence, ceded the Liaodong Peninsula, Taiwan and the Penghu Islands to Japan and agreed to pay an indemnity. Liaodong was returned to China soon afterward under the Triple Intervention.
