Joro SanpaiJoro Sanpai

Also known as: 上臈参拝

The highlight of the Sentei Festival on May 3. Five groups of high-ranking court ladies, called joro, walk through town and then cross a special bridge inside the shrine grounds in the sotohachimonji step before praying. Court women, guards, child attendants and young maids accompany them. The rite is said to trace back to the ladies left behind after Dannoura who kept worshipping on each anniversary.
