Maiden
The Maiden is a hip-and-gable hall standing in front of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu's Wakamiya shrine, in the middle of the approach. It marks the spot where the old Wakamiya corridor once stood, and where, in 1186, Shizuka Gozen — lover of the fugitive Minamoto no Yoshitsune — was forced by Yoritomo to dance before him. The hall now hosts weddings, and every April a reenactment dance in her honor is offered there.
