Kamakura City

Kamakura City sits at the base of the Miura Peninsula in southeastern Kanagawa Prefecture, covering about 39.5 square kilometers. It was incorporated as a city on November 3, 1939, through the merger of Kamakura Town and Koshigoe Town. Its terrain — mountains on three sides and the sea on the fourth — made it naturally defensible as a medieval capital.
