Kurokami Buried ToriiKurokami Maibotsu Torii
During the 1914 Taisho eruption of Sakurajima, a roughly 3-meter-tall torii gate at Hara-goja Shrine in the Kurokami district was buried by pumice and ash in about a single day, leaving only the top meter visible. It has been preserved unearthed ever since as a record of the eruption's power.
