Also known as: Kagoshima Bay
Kinko Bay was formed when seawater flooded the Aira Caldera, a roughly 20-kilometer-wide crater left by a massive eruption about 29,000 years ago. Its official administrative name is Kagoshima Bay, though locals favor the more poetic “Kinko Bay,” and the waters are now part of a geopark home to dolphins and deep-sea creatures.
