Hojoya FestivalHōjōya

Also known as: 放生会

An autumn festival held at Hakozaki-gu shrine, rooted in the Buddhist practice of releasing living creatures as an act of mercy (hōjō). The week-long celebration features food and souvenir stalls lining the shrine approach. Traditional purchases associated with the festival include young ginger (hajikami) and glass 'champon' (woven glass bead) ornaments.
