六連島 (Mutsurejima)

Also known as: 六連島・Mutsurejima

A lava-plateau island in the Hibiki-nada sea about 5 km north-west of Hikoshima, Shimonoseki. It is read Mutsurejima: 六連 is read mutsure, followed by a voiced jima. Three theories of the name are reported: small islands lined up around it, six settlers who divided the island into six, or a change from a Korean word for "settlement".
