Ishiyama HonganjiIshiyama Honganji
Also known as: 石山本願寺
A great stronghold of the Jodo Shinshu (Ikko) sect that stood on the site before Osaka Castle. After a ten-year struggle with Oda Nobunaga, the Ishiyama War, its forces withdrew, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi built Osaka Castle on the spot.
