Arimatsu Shiboriarimatsu-shibori

Also known as: 有松絞り・有松・鳴海絞り・鳴海絞り・Arimatsu tie-dye・Narumi shibori

A traditional Japanese tie-dyeing craft that flourished in the Arimatsu and Narumi districts of present-day Midori Ward, Nagoya. Merchants sold the distinctive patterned towels and goods as souvenirs along the Tokaido highway, spreading the craft's fame nationwide. Numerous resist-dyeing techniques have been handed down through generations.
