Engakuji

Engakuji ranks second among the Five Mountains of Kamakura. It was founded in 1282 by the 8th regent Hojo Tokimune to mourn all who died in the Mongol invasions, friend and foe alike, with the Song-dynasty monk Mugaku Sogen invited from China as founding priest. It is known for the Shariden hall enshrining a Buddha relic (a National Treasure) and for Kamakura's largest bell, the Ogane, cast in 1301 (also a National Treasure).
