Also known as: 志賀島

An island in the northern part of Hakata Bay, connected to the Fukuoka mainland by the Uminonakamichi sand spit rather than by a bridge. Shikanoshima is the traditional site of the discovery of the gold seal 'Kan no Wa no Na no Kokuo' (meaning: King of the Na state of Wa), now a National Treasure. The island is also known for fresh seafood restaurants and scenic views of the bay.
