Yamada AkiyoshiYamada Akiyoshi
Also known as: 山田顕義
Born in 1844 as a son of a Hagi samurai, he entered Shokasonjuku at 14. He joined the Iwakura Mission, became an army lieutenant general and Japan's first Minister of Justice, and was called the "Count of the Codes" for his work on legal codes. In 1889 he founded the Japan Law School, the predecessor of Nihon University, and Kokugakuin the next year.
