放牧grazing
From spring through autumn, cattle and horses such as Akaushi are turned loose on Aso's grasslands. As they graze, they hold back tree encroachment, so maintaining the grassland landscape itself becomes a goal of grazing, not merely a side effect of raising livestock for food.
