Saigo TanomoSaigō Tanomo

A senior councilor (karo) of Aizu domain in its final years. During the Boshin War, 21 members of his household, including his wife and children, took their own lives together at their residence, though Tanomo himself survived, later fought in the Battle of Hakodate, and in his later years served as a Shinto priest at Nikko Toshogu Shrine, where he was reconciled with his former lord, Matsudaira Katamori.
