Former British Consulate in ShimonosekiKyu Shimonoseki Eikoku Ryojikan
Also known as: 旧下関英国領事館・Former British Consulate
A two-story brick consulate built in 1906 in the Karato district and designated a nationally Important Cultural Property. It is a red-brick building trimmed with stone around the windows, with a south veranda of continuous arches and columns. Its architect was William Cowan, chief architect at the Shanghai office of the British government's Office of Works.
