Kofuku-ji Temple

Founded in 669 as the Fujiwara clan's family temple, Kofuku-ji relocated to its present site in 710 when the capital moved to Heijo-kyo. It holds the National Treasure Ashura statue, one of the most recognized Buddhist sculptures in Japan.
