Kochi Castle
Kochi Castle was built by Yamauchi Katsutoyo, who received the whole of Tosa province as a reward for his service at the Battle of Sekigahara; construction began in 1601 and the main citadel was finished by 1603. A 1727 fire destroyed nearly the entire castle town, but the castle was rebuilt in its original form by 1753, and fifteen of its structures, including the keep, are now Important Cultural Properties.
