Also known as: 亀山上皇
A retired Japanese emperor of the Kamakura period who offered prayers for national protection during the Mongol invasions, reportedly vowing to become a divine shield for the country. A large bronze statue of him stands in Higashi Park in Fukuoka, facing toward Hakata Bay — the scene of the invasions.
