Hakozaki DistrictHakozaki

Also known as: 箱崎

A district in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City, home to the historic Hakozaki-gu shrine. The district name uses the character 箱 (hako = box) while the shrine name uses the rare character 筥 — both read 'hakozaki.' The area was the former site of Kyushu University's main campus before the university relocated.
