A traditional ritual performance that forms the historical core of Hakata Dontaku festival. Performers dressed as deities and legendary figures parade through the streets of Hakata to bestow blessings for the New Year. Originally performed to celebrate the arrival of the new year, it evolved into the modern Dontaku parade.
