Higashiyama OnsenHigashiyama Onsen

A hot spring resort spread across the hills east of central Aizuwakamatsu, said to have been discovered by the monk Gyoki in the Nara period. It was developed as a recuperation retreat for Aizu domain samurai during the Edo period, and its ryokan district still serves as the castle town's traditional inner retreat today.
