Uraga Station is the southern terminus of the Keikyu Main Line; JR trains never reach Uraga. Nearby stood the Uraga shipyard where officials of the Uraga Magistrate's Office built the Hōō Maru, Japan's first Western-style warship, in the 1850s. The neighborhoods of eastern and western Uraga around the station still keep the layout of an old harbor town, linked to this day by a small local ferry.
