Gunkanjima

Gunkanjima is the nickname of Hashima, an island once run by Mitsubishi as an undersea coal mine. Around its 1960 peak, the island reportedly had one of the highest population densities in the world; it closed in 1974 and became uninhabited, then was registered in 2015 as part of the "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution" World Heritage listing.
